Given that the bears are emerging from hibernation, I figured I’d best do the same. We’ve had a lovely winter complete with lots of visits with friends and family and trips to the big town(s).
The kiddos and I are back on rigorous froggy patrol. I suspect the dear creatures will start to sing much earlier than last year. We haven’t had nearly the snow and cold and the melt is on in earnest already.
In another rite of spring our dear friends Beth and Pat Hagan will soon return from wintering in Hawaii. (Some East Glacier-ites are smarter than others.) Electra knew which kind she was and spent some of the winter on the Islands, as well. She is back in the diner next week and none too soon as our friends at Glacier Park Lodge return here shortly and the boards will come down and town will be hopping once again.
Last spring I expressed a desire to have cinnamon rolls in the diner. This spring, Husband is constructing a bakery. Some East Glacier-ites think bigger than others. We got the green light from our sanitarian yesterday so it’s now all systems go on creating the Rock and Roll Bakery. This summer the bakery will produce yummy treats to sell in the Two Medicine Grill and The Glacier Park Trading Company. Next summer the place will open as a retail location complete with baked goods and outdoor gear (hence the “rock” part of the Rock and Roll name.) I’m looking forward to ordering gear and serving as quality control monitor on the offerings containing chocolate, cinnamon or sugar.
We’ll be chronicling the construction process here so tune back in for pictures of transforming an old post office into a bakery. Go husband! He’s already cut a trench in the concrete and Cousin Matt’s hauled 1300 pounds of the broken stuff out the door. Some, actually most, East Glacier-ites are really strong.
Dalton told me the other day he did not think the Easter Bunny was real. I asked why. “Because he hides eggs and bunnies can’t hide eggs because they don’t have hands.” Here’s hoping the bunny manages to find you and yours despite a lack of hands.
Yes, your husband definitely does think bigger than most. What a terrific idea, building a bakery and gear shop.
Thanks, Ginny. Well said.
